QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
QUESTION: If Jesus has forgiven all my sin (past, present, future), then why must I still ask for forgiveness when I presently sin?
Questions, questions, questions, life can be filled with so many questions. Where do we turn for the answers? Where should we turn? I’m glad you are here today as we begin a new series designed to address some of the moral and spiritual questions that have recently been raised by our congregation. Questions that (if unanswered) can potentially undermine our faith or even contribute to us stumbling in our Christian walk. My prayer for the series is simple: May the Lord grant us His answers to life’s questions as we seek them through His Word. May the Lord encourage each of us this morning as we seek the answers from Him!
Romans 5:6–11 — 6For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. 10For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
1 John 1:5–10 — 5This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
